Sephardic Family Names

Many surnames connected to Portugal or Sephardic history appear across religious records, tax registers and later civil documentation. Patterns include patronymic formations, toponyms linked to towns, and Romance-language endings—each with regional variation.

There is no universal list that “proves” ancestry without documents: names converged across families, changed during migration, and were spelled differently in Latin, Portuguese and Spanish sources.

We encourage documented genealogical work with reputable archives and professionals. Genetic testing can complement paper trails but does not replace verifiable records when legal processes are involved.
